E-rate Vendor Conference Scheduled

SCHOOLS AND LIBRARIES: Because we have heard from numerous entities, including schools, libraries, AND vendors, that service providers are unclear about the rules and billing prodedures of the program, we have scheduled an E-rate Vendor Conference, being held on March 16 at the Harrisburg Marriott. Please encourage your service providers to attend, particularly ones with which you have existing contracts and those that have submitted bids to you for E-rate eligible items. E-RATE CONFERENCE FOR VENDORS

Participation by: Schools and Libraries Corporation, Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission, and Pennsylvania Office of Information Technology

The PA Department of Education’s Office of Educational Technology is hosting a vendor education conference on the Universal Service Discount Program for Schools and Libraries, also known as E-rate. The conference will provide information to vendors and service providers who may provide E-rate eligible services and commodities to schools and libraries. We anticipate that billing procedures and FCC Form 486 will have been released and will be the major focus of the conference. Who should attend?
Any vendor or service provider marketing or facilitating E-rate eligible commodities or services to schools and libraries, including computer manufacturers and resellers, Internet service providers, telecommunications providers, electricians, providers of internal connections, cable providers, wireless providers, architects, contractors, and network wiring/maintenance specialists.

Conference Check-in 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.
Program will begin at 9:00 a.m. and will include the following topics:

Brief overview of the E-rate program
Service provider requirements
Application process
Where to go to seek new business from the program
Billing procedures and FCC Form 486
An open forum for questions will follow the presentations

Nick Giordano, Director of Telecommunications Policy Division, Pennsylvania Office of Information Technology
Conference cost: $25.
Registration and payment are required by March 12. VISA/MasterCard will be accepted. Seating is limited. Registration questions should be directed to the CSIU at (717) 523-1155, ext. 300. Contact the Marriott at 1-800-343-5982 and identify registration as the "PDE/CSIU Vendor Conference." Rooms must be reserved by March 7 to guarantee the special rate.
