Link-to-Learn Pre-Grant Workshops Scheduled

LINK-TO-LEARN PRE-GRANT WORKSHOPS SCHEDULED, OTHER TECHNOLOGY INITIATIVES TO BE DISCUSSED

The Office of Educational Technology is pleased to announce that the 1998-99 Link-to-Learn Year III grant applications are in the process of being mailed to all school districts, intermediate units and vocational technical schools.

Three regional pre-grant workshops will be held in May, 1998. Attendance at a regional workshop is encouraged, but not required, as part of the application process. Workshops will begin at 10:00 a.m. and end at 3:00 p.m. each day and will cover the basic education grant application, Year 2000 issues, the E-rate and other related technology projects.

The only exception may be an E-rate evaluation/focus group discussion at one of the locations. We have invited officials from the Schools and Libraries Corporation to the pre-grant workshops to gather feedback on the first year of the E-rate program and ways to improve year two. They have indicated an interest in attending one of the workshops and will let us know which one, if any, they plan to attend. If such a session is scheduled, we certainly will forward you more details.

As always, this is an excellent opportunity for school officials to network among applicants and potential partners. There is no pre-registration and you should receive your Link-to-Learn applications prior to the workshops. Please be sure to bring them along.

Workshops will be held on these dates in these cities.

Tuesday, May 12 Pittsburgh University of Pittsburgh Lawrence Hall Room 121

Friday, May 15 Harrisburg PA Department of Education Honors Suite

Wednesday, May 20 Bethlehem Lehigh University Mountaintop Campus Iacocca Hall, 2nd Floor

Link-to-Learn Year III enhances the efforts undertaken in the first two years development of wide area networks and high speed Internet connections. The Basic Education Grant will provide $36 million to supplement local and regional investments in infrastructure, distance learning, technology, educational content and professional development. School districts and vocational technical schools are eligible for the same amount of funding received in Link-to-Learn Year II.

For more information call the Office of Educational Technology (717) 783-4414.
