E-rate Update - SLC Providing Special Training for Vendors

The Schools and Libraries Corporation has developed a series of vendor training sessions that will focus on specific aspects of the E-rate program
from funding commitments through implementation of discounts. These sessions are designed to provide the timely information vendors will need
to deliver E-rate discounts to approved applicants. A few things...
1) Please note that no funding commitment letters have been mailed and probably won't be mailed for a few more weeks.
2) You may want to share this information with your service providers to be sure they are participating in one of these outreach events.
3) The satellite teleconferences are open for E-rate applicants as well as vendors so you may want to tune in.
The material for this training has been organized into four modules which closely track the related material in the "E-Rate Manual for Service
Providers" as posted on the SLC Web Site at [www.slcfund.org/ServiceProvider/manual_sp.asp]. (Training materials also
will be available soon via fax for those vendors without Web access. To order material via fax, please call 800-959-0733 afer October 28, 1998.)
The specific modules are:
* Module A: Your Funding Commitment Decisions Letter and 486 Notification Letter (Steps 6-8 of the E-Rate Manual for Service Providers)
* Module B: Applicant Reimbursement/BEAR Form (Step 9 of the E-Rate Manual for Service Providers)
* Module C: Invoicing Your E-Rate Customers (Steps 10 and 11 of the E-Rate Manual for Service Providers)
* Module D: Invoicing SLC (Step 12 of the E-Rate Manual for Service Providers)
* Each module will also touch on Service Provider Annual Certification, preparations for the next program year, and SLC's special resources for
vendors.
All four modules will be covered in a variety of venues at set times between October 28 and November 20, 1998, as follows:

In advance of each of these one-hour call-in sessions, vendors are encouraged to review the relevant modules on the Web site or via fax on
demand. On the call, SLC staff will present the material and answer questions following this timed agenda:

NOTE: The SLC is seeking a wide array of free downlink facilities for the two satellite broadcast sessions, so that vendors without their own
downlink capability may benefit from the teleconferences. If you are a school, library, business, or community organization willing to make your

The training sessions taking place under the umbrella of these standing conference calls will kick off with Module A on Wednesday, October 28, when
it will be presented 3 timesØ12 p.m., 1 p.m., and 2 p.m. (EST). Subsequently, each Wednesday call will recap one or more modules and
provide additional opportunities for discussion and idea-sharing among vendors.
Hands-On Vendor Training Conferences
Covering Modules A through D in depth, with SLC and peer assistance. Details on the dates during November, times and places will be provided by
Newsflash and on the SLC Web Site when available.
