Year 2: Wave 13 E-rate Funding Commitments Listed
Message Posted October 6, 1999
Congratulations to the following schools and libraries that are receiving
E-rate Funding Commitment Letters for Wave 13. A more detailed
description of this wave, including the exact discount percentage and
specific funding category, is posted on the
SLD web site.
* There will several more waves, so if you haven't been listed
in any of the first 13 waves, don't panic. They have only committed about
$1 billion of the $2.25 billion available.
*** Important: You should have received by now
your Receipt Acknowledgement Letter for your Year 2 applications.
Apparently, of the 30,000 applications received, all but 300 have had
RALetters mailed and the other 300 have been contacted by problem
resolution. If you haven't received them yet, call 888-203-8100 to check
the status of your application. You will recall that the RAL letter is not a funding letter,
it just tells the applicant that the SLD has received your application and
it has been entered into their system. It also provides you with a listing
of what they have entered so you can double check that they have the correct
information.
* The next step is to file a Form 486 to indicate to the SLD that service
has begun.
* After you have received your funding commitment letter, check with your
service provider and ask if they plan to include discounts on bills. If
not, you should plan to begin submitting BEAR forms for reimbursement,
available at http://www.sl.universalservice.org/SLC/Reference/forms.asp.
If you choose to submit a BEAR form, please
remember to mark "YES" in column i of the Form 486. As with year 1, they
prefer quarterly filing of BEAR forms, although you have the option of
filing semi-annually or at the end of the funding year.
*** Important: If you are one of the individuals who have been watching
other schools and libraries receive E-rate discounts and want to learn how
your school or library can get involved in the upcoming application cycle,
you are encouraged to attend the one-day E-rate for Beginners workshop in
Harrisburg on October 15. For more information, or to register, visit:
