Year 2: Wave 16 E-rate Funding Commitments Listed
Message Posted October 25, 1999
* Internal Connections Threshold Remains at 50% *
*Year 3 Application Process To Begin This Week -- Details in Upcoming E-mail*
Congratulations to the following schools and libraries that are receiving
E-rate Funding Commitment Letters for Wave 16, totalling $973,373.65.
Pennsylvania has received $43, 907,508.83 to date for year 2.
As with the previous two waves, this wave also reflects the
SLDs action of lowering the discount threshold from 65% to 50% for internal
connections requests. This means that if you submitted a successful
application during the window and your discount is at least 50%, you will
be receiving E-rate discounts for your internal connections. You already
know that all successful applications for telecommunications and internet
access are funded, regardless of discount level. It is still unknown
whether the threshold will go lower than 50%. This is GREAT news for many
PA schools and libraries as you can see from the * marks next to the
applicants that are receiving internal connections discounts in this wave.
A more detailed
description of this wave, including the exact discount percentage and
specific
funding category, will be posted on the
SLD web .
* There will several more waves, so if you haven't been listed
in any of the first 16 waves, don't panic. They have only committed about
$1.4 billion of the $2.25 billion available. I will send out a message when
we're nearing the end of the waves.
* The next step is to file a Form 486 to indicate to the SLD that service
has begun.
* After you have received your funding commitment letter, check with your
service provider and ask if they plan to include discounts on bills. If
not, you should plan to begin submitting BEAR forms for reimbursement.
If you choose to submit a BEAR form, please
remember to mark "YES" in column i of the Form 486. As with year 1, they
prefer quarterly filing of BEAR forms, although you have the option of
filing semi-annually or at the end of the funding year.
