Uninterruptable Power Supply Systems (UPS) Now E-rate Eligible
Message Posted December 2, 1999
The FCC has just added Uninterruptable Power Supply Systems or UPS to the
SLD's list of services and facilities that are eligible for USF discounts. The
SLD defines UPS as: A Device providing a steady source of electric energy
to a piece of equipment. A steady offline UPS normally has the load
connected to the AC power supply. When main power fails, it transfers the
load without any user intervention. UPS are typically used to provide
continuous power in case you lose commercial power. It is a back up device."
If you are considering obtaining these systems from July 1, 2000 to June 30,
2001, now is the time to post a Form 470 to competitively bid these
services.
Like all other eligible components and services, they must be used to
support valid educational purposes, so a UPS system to power network switches, routers or a PBX would be eligible, but a UPS to power your cooling system would not.
For a complete list of E-rate eligible services, refer to the SLD web site
