E-rate Tidbits for Service Providers
Message Posted April 18, 2000

1) The SLD has appointed a new liaison with the vendor community after Matt Harcourt’s departure. Ellen Wolfhagen, formerly the chief legal officer of SLD, has been transferred to the position of Director of Service Provider Relations. Before coming to the SLD, she worked for the State of Washington in doing their E-Rate applications, so she knows the process from all sides. Her e-mail address is: ewolfhagen@universalservice.org

She also will conduct service provider conference calls every other week at 1:00 p.m. EST for interested service providers to discuss pending issues. I understand that the calls can become very crowded sometimes, so I suggest you forward specific applicant questions to Ellen before or after the call, and only ask questions during the call that will be of importance to most providers. To access the call, dial 1-847-413-2931; the pass code is 1390177. The next call is Wednesday, April 19. If you would like an agenda for the call, or would like to receive future call agenda's, e-mail Ellen at the address above.

2) The SLD announced recently that they are instituting a New Data Error Rejection Process for Invoices. The new process involves a return of invoices with basic information errors. Information about how this will work is on the website at www.sl.universalservice.org/vendor/errorcodes.asp and includes a page which has a detailed explanation of the error codes which will be used in returning the invoices.

3) The Pennsylvania E-rate web site has been redesigned and updated... I plan to continue to add helpful documents as time permits. The one new document that exists, in addition to some vendor guidance, is a list of SPIN numbers for providers that are doing business with Pennsylvania schools and libraries. Please visit: www.pde.psu.edu/usf/index.html and under Helpful Documents, SPIN Numbers, make sure your SPIN number is listed. If it's not, please e-mail me the legal name of your company and your SPIN Number so I can update the page. The same goes for schools and libraries... please forward me the SPINs of any providers you use but don't see listed. Thanks!
