Year 5 of E-rate Approaching
Message Posted October 10, 2001
Although the SLD has not formally announced the Form 471 application window for Year 5, they have said that it likely will be open from early November through mid January (similar to last year). As soon as I hear exact dates, I'll pass them along.
Knowing this, you should be posting your Form 470's at this time for all new contracts, tariffed or month-to-month services. Remember, there is no such thing as a multi-year tariff under E-rate. Assuming the close of the 471 window is mid January, you will want to have your 470's posted by early December, at the latest.
As far as any changes for Year 5, the only one that I'm aware of so far is a new eCertification feature which will allow you to bypass the signature/certification pages if you have filed before (you still will have to submit your Item 21 attachments via mail). They are still working out the details, so don't worry or focus on this too much.
The will be updating the eligibility list in the next 2 weeks to reflect some minor changes, including the eligibility of Internet 2, the telecommunications portions only, and Client Access Licenses (internal connections).
When I receive further information regarding dates, I'll let you know. Don't put it off... post your Year 5 470's now.
