2 Offers You Can't Refuse
Message Posted December 3, 2001

1) E-rate Year 5 Binders

As many of you know, I recently completed E-rate for Beginners trainings at 3 locations across the state. Although we trained about 400 people, we have several binders left over and I am offering them to anyone who e-mails me their mailing address. Please keep in mind that they were printed in early October, so the information about updated eligible services list, non-original signatures, eCertification, etc, are not included in the materials. First come, first served!

2) SLD Wants to Come to PA for a Friendly Visit!

The SLD has just contacted me and they would like to pay friendly visits to a few PA schools who have benefited from E-rate discounts. I assure, you, this is not to audit you or find flaws. The overall objective is to have SLD gain a better understanding of what's going on in the field -- what's working well, what can work even better, why some facilities justifiably cost more per student than other facilities, and so on. Also, it is your chance to tell them what else you think should be "eligible" that is not already and how to improve the program.

The person that would be coming is Phil Gieseler, the SLD's Technology Operations Manager. His responsibility is to evaluate products and services in order to determine

where discounts can be provided, now and in the future. The visits are intended to help develop "good news" stories about the benefits achieved with e-rate funds. They have no connection whatsoever with any audit or oversight function.

He would like to visit a handful of entities in January, and is pretty flexible with the dates. If you are interested in showing the SLD what improvements have been made in your school as a result of E-rate, and would like to have a chance to talk with one of the 10 executives of the program, please send me an e-mail and I will try to arrange a schedule for January.

Thanks for your help!
