E-Rate Wave 9 Funding Committments
Message Posted August 12, 2002

Congratulations to the following 11 Pennsylvania schools and libraries that will be receiving Year 5 (Funding Year 2002-2003), Wave 9 E-rate Funding Commitment Letters, totaling $76,470.85. A summary of each commitment is listed below, and detailed information will be posted on the SLD web site under Funding Commitments: http://www.sl.universalservice.org/funding/.

If you find that your funding commitment letter does not arrive in a timely manner, please call the SLD ASAP to get a replacement (888-203-8100). All Year 5 correspondence will be in BLUE.

A wave will be arriving every other week until the Year 5 funding is exhausted. If you were not funded in this wave, don't panic. Review of applications usually is done on a first-come first served basis, but not always. Funding is still being provided only for Priority One (Telecommunications and Internet Access) services.

Applicants with discount rates below 80% are being informed that their requests for Priority Two (Internal Connection) services will be denied due to insufficient funds. A decision on the level of Internal Connection funding is not expected until at least late September.

A few very important notes:
* The next step is to file the Form 486 which tells the SLD 3 things:
1) that they are authorized to pay invoices (either BEAR or SPIFs)
2) that your technology plan has been approved (and by which SLD-certified approver)
3) that you are or will be CIPA compliant by July 1, 2002.

If you were not funded in this wave, and would like to check on the status of your application, you can do so by accessing the SLD's web site at http://www.sl.universalservice.org/menu.asp click on Application Status under the Form 471. (Note this is the same area where you apply on-line) You will need to provide your Billed Entity number and the Funding Year you wish to review.
