3 Important E-rate Reminders for This Week

1) Form 472 BEAR for Year 8 (2005-2006) Deadline 10/30/2006

Monday, October 30, 2006 is the deadline to have your Year 8 (July 1, 2005 - June 30, 2006) BEAR Forms postmarked for recurring services. My complete tips and suggestions for completing this form can be found at:

* If you realize that your service provider is different than what was listed on your funding commitment letter, file a SPIN change by Monday. The SLD will grant it, and then you will have an additional 120 days to file your new BEAR. Instructions for submitting a SPIN change can be found at:
http://www.sl.universalservice.org/reference/OperationalSpin.asp (use the fax or e-mail filing option).

* If you are unsure of your vendor's E-rate contact person, e-mail me at jtschell@comcast.net!

* If you realize that you have run out of time, file for an Invoice (BEAR) Deadline Extension by Monday. Here's the easiest way to do so: 

1. Go to “Submit a Question” feature on the SLD Web Site:
http://www.slforms.universalservice.org/EMailResponse/EMail_Intro.aspx
2. Click “Continue” button.
3. Under “Topic Inquiry,” (the second box), select “Invoice Deadline Extension Request” and click “Go.”
4. Select “Other” and click “Continue.”
5. Complete the next screen, by providing your contact information as requested on the screen. Click “Continue.”
6. In the text box, provide the following information:
-- Form 471 Application Number
-- Funding Request Number (FRN)
-- Service Provider Name and SPIN
-- Amount of BEAR (if known)
-- Reason for Invoice Deadline Extension request, such as "Applicant needs additional time to obtain service provider certification and submit BEAR to SLD."


2) Form 486 for Year 9 (2006-2007), Waves 1-10 Deadline 10/30/2006

For applicants funded in Year 9, before July 1, 2006 (waves 1 - 10), the deadline to submit your 486 is Monday, October 30, 2006. If you were funded after July 1, 2006, count 120 days from the date on your funding commitment decision letter and that will give you the date that your Form 486 is due. You may include ALL of your funding requests on the same form; there is no need to file a separate 486 for each FRN. If you have not yet received your FCDL, you should not submit a 486 for those FRNs still pending SLD decision. When those applications are funded, those applicants will then have 120 days from the date of the FCDL to submit their 486.

E-rate for Veterans Training Webinar 11/1/2006

Don't forget, the E-rate training for veterans webinar is being held from 1:30 - 3:30 on Wednesday, November 1 and pre-registration is required at:  http://www.pdewebinars.org/index.lasso (click 'More' under Year 10 E-rate Update for Veterans at the bottom of the page).   The new Eligible Services List will be discussed first for individuals who attended the first webinar and would just like the ESL update. Other updates will include the new Online BEAR, a great new way to research your FRNs, and all other Year 10 updates.  For individuals that may not be familiar with webinars, you simply log-in to a pre-announced website where you will view the training online from the comfort of your own computer (additional details about participating in the webinar are below*).

http://www.pdewebinars.org for the SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS and set up instructions included in the Introduction to Webinars link (http://downloads.chesco.net/powerpoint/IntroductiontoWebinarsR.ppt). A headset with microphone or external speakers and microphone are strongly recommended to enhance your Webinar experience.

DAY OF THE WEBINAR

    • Make sure you have successfully configured your computer before the scheduled date and time.
    • Connect your speakers, microphone and/or headset before joining the Webinar.
    • Return to the www.pdewebinars.org website and locate the Year 10 E-Rate Update for Veterans advertisement. Be sure to scroll down to view the November 1st session as needed.
    • Click on the More button
    • Click on the Join button
    • Enter your first name and email address where it asks for the User Name (ex: Nancy – nc@mymail.com) and leave the password blank. We are asking you to use your EMAIL ADDRESS as your USERNAME when you log into these meetings so that we may efficiently respond to your questions.
