Confusing Reminder Letters from SLD Slated to Arrive

If you posted a FY 2007 (Year 10) Form 470 and did not list that 470 # on a Form 471 by January 10, 2007, expect to receive a reminder letter from SLD.
SLD announced this week that they are sending a new reminder letter to every applicant that filed a Form 470 for FY 2007 (Year 10), and have not listed that 470# on a Form 471 as of January 10, 2007. Although the letter is intended to be a reminder letter, I expect it to be confusing to many applicants when they first receive it, so I wanted to provide some background information to you in advance, and assure you that the reminder letter is nothing to be worried about. This is the first year that such a letter is being sent.
The reminder letters were mailed midweek (January 16th and 17th)) and is addressed to the contact person listed on the Form 470. Given the fact that the 471 filing deadline is not until February 7, 2007, and that only 600 (out of the usually 5500) Form 471s have been filed in PA, this means that the VAST majority of applicants will receive this letter. SLD will mail one letter for every Form 470 which was posted and hasn't yet shown up on a filed Form 471, so if you posted multiple Form 470s, you will receive multiple reminder letters.
It is especially important to remember that you cannot file your Form 471 before the Allowable Contract Date (ACD) listed on your Form 470 (which is 29 days from the date you posted your Form 470). The SLD’s new reminder letter does NOT change this fundamental rule of the E-rate program in any way.
There's nothing you need to do in response to the reminder letter, except to continue to prepare to file your Form 471 and hit submit before 11:59 p.m. on February 7, 2007.
