SLD Releases Yr 11 (2008-2009) Demand Level to FCC Message Posted March 11, 2008
The SLD has released their demand estimates for Year 11, Funding Year 2008, and demand has increased by 16.75%. Demand for Yr 11 totals $4.307 billion, although this figure is likely to be reduced as applications are denied and duplicate requests are eliminated. This demand is still well over the annual cap of $2.25 billion and based on prior years' demand, this figure likely indicates that Year 11 internal connections funding will likely cover the 90% applications, but will not reach far below 90%.
A few notes:
1) Many applicants were expecting FY 2008 demand to decrease due to the fact that FY 2008 was the fourth year of the 2/5 rule, essentially making it the second year that some entities were not eligible to receive Internal Connections funding. In fact, priority 2 level demand actually increased by 24%, including a 50% increase in demand at the 90% priority 2 level.
2) A total of 39,909 Form 471s were received. 98% of applications were filed online and 75% of Form 471s were certified online as well.
3) In Pennsylvania, 5734 FRNs were filed on 2447 Form 471s, by 1184 different entities. Total demand from PA applications is $115,376,537, an increase of over $32 million from last year. Requests for priority 1 services of $67,611,767 ($4+ million increase), and requests for priority 2 services/equipment of $47,764,769 ($27+ million increase).
