Request for Updated Internet Safety Policies
December 20, 2011

If your school has updated their Internet Safety Policy to include the new cyberbullying/online safety education requirements, will you please send it to me (either as a file or a URL if it's already online)? I will gather these updated ISPs and post them (as well as online safety curriculum resources) on the PA E-rate website as resources for other Pennsylvania schools to use.

Just in case you missed it, in September 2011 the FCC released the new CIPA rules which require schools' Internet Safety Policies to include "... educating minors about appropriate online behavior, including interacting with other individuals on social networking websites and in chat rooms and cyberbullying awareness and response." Essentially this means that schools are required to teach online safety to students as a prerequisite to receiving E-rate funding. The full Order is available at: http://hraunfoss.fcc.gov/edocs_public/attachmatch/FCC-11-125A1.pdf.

Updated Internet Safety Policies must be in place on or before July 1, 2012, with the education of all students occurring beginning with the 2012 school year.

Thanks for your help!
