The SLD has just announced that the Year 7 (2004-2005) E-rate application window will open at noon on Wednesday, November 5, 2003, and close at 11:59 PM EST on Wednesday, February 4, 2004.
For those of you who wait until the last minute to file your forms, this means that the absolute final day for you to post a 470, wait 28 days, and still leave yourself with one day to sign contracts, complete your 471 and have it postmarked within the window (including certification/signature pages) is January 7, 2003. BUT DO NOT WAIT UNTIL JANUARY TO FILE YOUR 470s -- you're only asking for trouble if you do. My advice is to have your 470's posted by late November or early December at the latest.
Although I normally encourage applicants to file their 470's immediately, you may want to wait until at least next week, if possible. The reason is that I will be attending an SLD Training Conference this week where they are expected to announced several changes to the program that could affect your 470's. I will send messages to this listserve next Monday or Tuesday announcing these changes.
Again this year, I will be conducting E-rate trainings for beginners. Dates, locations, and registration information will be announced within the next two weeks.
