E-rate PIA Extensions for Federal Disaster Areas
September 12, 2011
Over the last two weeks, many areas in Pennsylvania were affected by Hurricane Irene and the major flooding resulting from the remnants of
Tropical Storm Lee. I hope that you, your families, your students and
library patrons, and your schools and libraries are safe and unharmed.
Although a small consolation, you should know that USAC follows the federal disaster declarations and gives applicants in those areas additional time to respond to PIA information requests. Therefore if you are in an area that has been declared a Federal Disaster Area, and if you receive a PIA request, just let them know of your federal disaster status and request an extension to respond. Please contact me if you have any difficulties in receiving this relief.
To determine if your area has been declared a Federal Disaster Area, go to the FEMA website at: http://www.fema.gov/femaNews/disasterSearch.do. The affected counties related to the recent flooding include: Adams, Bedford, Berks, Blair, Bradford, Bucks, Cambria, Carbon, Centre, Chester, Clinton, Columbia, Cumberland, Dauphin, Delaware, Franklin, Fulton, Huntingdon, Juniata, Lackawanna, Lancaster, Lebanon, Lehigh, Luzerne, Lycoming, Mifflin, Monroe, Montgomery, Montour, Northampton, Northumberland, Perry, Philadelphia, Schuylkill, Snyder, Somerset, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Tioga, Union, Wyoming, and York.
