Sunesys to Add 5% Tax to WAN Invoices

March 3, 2014

At the end of January, Sunesys (a major fiber provider in PA) sent a letter to their PA customers stating that beginning July 1, 2014, they would begin imposing the 5% PA Gross Receipts Tax to their invoices for wide area network services. Traditionally, Sunesys’ invoices were inclusive of all taxes, surcharges and fees.

Schools and libraries are NOT exempt from the PA Gross Receipts Tax, but the good news is that the tax is E-rate eligible. So, if you will be listing Sunesys as one of your service providers on your FY 2014 Form 471, please be sure to include the extra 5% over your base contracted amount so you request enough E-rate funding for the year.

For example, if your base contract amount is $3,000/month, you would add $150, making the Block 5, 23A amount $3150.

If you already filed your Form 471 and didn’t include the extra 5%, you should use your Form 471 Receipt Acknowledgement Letter to increase your request and fax it back to USAC.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
