FCC Approves Full Funding for FY 2017; Wave 1 Coming Soon

Attached: FY2017-Demand-Estimate

Last week USAC submitted their Funding Year 2017 “E-rate Demand Estimate” to the FCC, showing how much E-rate funding was requested in each category (copy attached).  For FY 2017, applicants requested a total of $3.2 billion (down from $3.6 billion in FY 2016), which includes estimated demand of $2.296 billion for Category 1 services and $904 million for Category equipment/services.  The E-rate cap is set at $3.99 billion for FY 2017 and USAC has projected $1.2 billion is also available from unused commitments in prior years.  Therefore, the FCC has approved the full funding of all eligible C1 and C2 requests.  Based on this approval, and if prior years’ practice is any indication, USAC will likely issue Wave 1 funding in the coming week.

I know that a few applicants have received PIA inquiries, and others have 471 statuses marked “Wave Ready” without receiving any PIA inquiries.  If you want to see whether your application is likely to be included in Wave 1, search for your Form 471 at the bottom of your EPC Landing Page, click on the Form 471 Application Number, then look at the top of the page for the 471 Status Bar to see if it shows “Wave Ready” status.

In PA, a total of $68,575,647 has been requested by PA schools, libraries and consortia for Funding Year 2017.

Category FY 2017
C1 Voice $3,488,540.00
Data Transmission/Internet Access $37,112,972.00
C2 Internal Connections $26,980,105.00
Basic Maintenance $644,945.00
Managed Internal Broadband Services $349,085.00
$68,575,647.00

I will provide details of Wave 1 as soon as they are released!

Happy Memorial Day, E-raters!
